Lancaster County Christmas, A (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I read a lot, so I have a lot of plots and characters running around in my head. Often is the case that a book is predictable, seeming to be about the same story line, with different names and plot enhancement details varying a just a tad. These tend to be forgettable for me. Once in a while, though, a new books takes off in a different direction and it really catches my attention. A Lancaster County Christmas is that book.Yes, there are daddy issues, marital issues and jealousies, but the discussion of them is intelligent and insightful. The fact that an Englisch couple stayed at an Amish farm due to a storm was a switch, and a grand one. The lives of 6 people mingle, blend, yet cause disturbances and healing as well. Every character is well mapped, each adding an important part to the story. God had his hand in the lives of all 6 as they spend 2 hard days together. They all learn from and help each other during the storm and subsequent struggles.Of the (well over) 200 books I've read this year, I'd say this was in my top 20 for 2013 and I totally recommend it. This was a most fascinating read. I love Suzanne Woods Fisher's books and she did not disappoint me with this one. I enjoyed how two families are thrown together due to the weather. Is it possible that an Amish couple and an English couple could help each other out? Mattie and Jaime are both agonizing over issues in their lives. Insecurities, lack of faith, and restlessness to a name a few.Sometimes it takes a wake up call for us to listen to what God wants for our lives. Will the wake up call in this story be enough to heal relationships or is it too late?
