Le Coup Sûr (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

*contains spoiler*I love me a good steamy bed scene, and while this has all the dirty talk, it did little to steam me up. The author lacks finesse. Also, the story material is complete shit. The characters are either bland or stereotypical. The drama is too immature and cliché. And what's with the mentality that the heroine HAS to give the hero a second chance because the asshole who fucked things up has been "trying". She tells him she loves him, tries to knock sense into him and save his career - and she's told she didn't do ENOUGH?! Meanwhile, he asks her to forgive her once, gets rejected, mopes around and everyone tells her the dumbfuck is trying his hardest so she should give him another chance, because men are just that stupid and he has never fallen in love before. Does that excuse his action? No. He needs to do better than that. And by "better" I don't mean proposing in front of a large crowd. *WHY* anyone would think that is romantic is beyond me. If a guy hurts me, I don't want a damn apology in front of a crowd, followed by a proposal. No. Talk to me - privately. Imagine if she had walked out - then SHE would look like the bad person... Because the romantic superstar apologized and proposed in front of a crowd and she rejected him. Of course, that didn't happen, because the reader is supposed to gush and squeal at how romantic the whole public proposal is =_= This is the second book in the Riley siblings. This time it is Gavin and Liz. Liz messed up badly with Gavin's brother Mick and he fired her. That same night she kissed Gavin whom she's loved for years and walked away. She thought for sure he would fire her as well so she avoided him for months after. Gavin couldn't get that kiss out of his mind. They come together in an explosion of passion and he finds out there is more to Liz than what she puts off. She isn't without feelings, but actually has insecurities and overcame an awful childhood. Their relationship isn't without its ups and downs on both sides but of course they come together in the end.

What do You think about Le Coup Sûr (2014)?

Fun! I liked this even better than the first in the series. This romance was believable because they'd known each other for awhile and it morphed into a grown up romance. They both had misgivings. Things holding them back, but you really buy into the fact that while they are individually great on their own, they are so much better together. And that's a hard formula to come by in the romance genre. I also love how the author has shaped these characters enough so that you get to see the prior characters' from the first book with the lens of flaws these characters seem them through. Really well done characterizations. Great writing. Steamy bits are great.

Liz was a hard one to get a handle on. You really want to hate her in the first book so Ms. Burton has her work cut out for her in this book to make you identify with her. She does this in a fantastic way. She takes a hard, independent woman and makes her human and fragile. Gavin is an egotistical baseball player to the max but still manages to get out of his own way in time to find love with this fantastic woman. This was a beautiful story. Mitch was the wild card - his attitude surprised me, but I am glad it ended the way that it did and I can't wait for the next book!
