This is weirdly the only book in the series that my library has, but it was a good start anyway - though the cameos did get a bit distracting, I get that they're fun for fans of the whole series. I really liked Brooke, and I thought her answer to the job offer was amazing. Cade was also fun, and they worked well together, I liked the banter (that Brooke really wanted to text Cade when she got a Denver omelette on the plane!). I wasn't sure about the whole story with Cade's dad - though the conclusion is touching, it felt a bit like they wanted us to pity someone who was clearly a douchebag. I'll probably read the other books in the series at some point! I just discovered Julie James with this series of stories about the U.S. Attorney General's office in Chicago and they have made quite an impression on me. Each one seems better than the last one but each one is unique and a great read. This time we have two lawyers facing off, Brooke Parker who is General Counsel for a restaurant company and Cade Morgan who is an Asst. U.S. Attorney General. I love the interrogation between the two of them since they both have Courtroom experience. There is definitely a connection between the two of them but who will blink first? Can't wait until the next one.
