I got about 1/2 way through this book. I think it was the video-game world that got to me. I love children's books and I love fantasy and this book was well written so I should have loved it--but I didn't. I rarely don't finish books. In fantasy you move along with the character willing them to LIVE through their adventures. Something is missing when the character has 999 lives. Who really cares when death is meaningless? Not me. The opening chapter had me very excited about this book's potential. It was full of magic and invention and held hints of greatness. I ended up abandoning it about halfway through, though. Kids may love this, but I found the plot was too linear and the story elements felt too "creative" for their own sake. In fact, it began to remind me of the story told at the end of "Elf." tl;dr: Too many seas of twirly, swirly gumdrops for me.
Loved it, it's an interesting, exciting story and it's absolutely full of love.
