Luka E Il Fuoco Della Vita (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This is very much a fairy tale given modern wrappings, and I think it works wonderfully well. It's a classic story in that a boy embarks on a magical quest to save his ailing father, braving dangers and strange beasts along the way. It's modernized in that much of the quest works like a video game, with levels, save points, extra lives, and such.Rushdie spins a tale of a modern boy with a magical family whose story telling father gets a mysterious illness. Rushdie uses a lot of word play to spin his tale, and if you like that, it's very amusing. He also grabs images from all over to be part of his tale. For example, along the banks of the River of Time, we run across Dr. Who and his TARDIS, the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the crew from Time Bandits, and even Henry Morgan, the Connecticut Yankee who visited King Arthur's Court.I think this may have been written as a children's book, but I found it very enjoyable whoever it was intended for. Recommended for anyone who is a fan of modern myth, fairy tales, and the ever popular boy desperate to save his father kind of story.

What do You think about Luka E Il Fuoco Della Vita (2000)?

Wizard of Oz meets Shriek. This is an adventure of young Luka in search of the fire of life to save his' father's life,as well as a journey to ones self. Add to the story, all the literary and television characters known to man. This book will send you to one great ride.Rushdie masterfully creates a world where everything fits perfectly; different cultures, generations, pop culture, literary greats, and everything else mixed altogether. You'll get the I-know-that and I-read-that to I-don't-know-that and I-need-to-read-that moments when Rushdie used all this different references and mix it to the story. He wonderfully crafted a timeless story that everybody can relate or understand. Time well spend reading this book.

Lovely! Just earned a spot on my list of books I will absolutely reread and recommend to everyone who appreciates wordplay, wit, intelligence, beauty, playfulness, and great storytelling. Appropriate for any age reader though the older you are the more likely you are to catch all the minute references to popular culture, history, and mythology as well as the innuendo and, well there's an awful lot to appreciate. Enjoy!!
