I like the Arcane Series and this is the 3rd in the Dreamlight Trilogy, but the 7th in the overall series. This book takes place on Harmony in the future. Adam Winters is the new head of the local Ghost Hunter Guild. His ancestor was into alchemy and actually changed the DNA of his lineage. In some eras the worst of the changes occur in a male of the line. It starts with hallucinations and nightmares. The male's psychic gifts become more uncontrollable, he can go quite mad. Adam is having hallucinations and nightmares. Can he believe the ancient stories? Can a lamp made by his ancestor and a female dreamlight reader save him or release the ultimate in power - the power that sent the original Alchemy wielding Winters completely mad?Marlowe Jones wears a leather jacket, rides a motorcycle, and has a "pet" dust bunny (native to Harmony).She is head of a psychic private investigation agency that has been in her family for a long time. She is a dreamlight talent. The Jones and Winters families have been enemies throughout time. The lamp disappears. Marlowe's family had been charged with protecting it, she is on the case. Adam needs the lamp and a dreamlight reader to hopefully save his sanity. But others want the lamp as well. Adam has enemies because he was named the new head of the Guild and others wanted that coveted job. Marlowe is being hunted for her talent and because people believe she can find the lamp. Can Adam and Marlowe work together? There are dangerous places on Harmony - many of them built by an alien race, and little understood by the humans now inhabiting the planet. In the twisting and many tunnels in the catacombs, people go mad or are lost forever. Adam, Marlowe, and her pet dust bunny have to work together if they are going to survive their forced time in the catacombs. Because they are both high profile people from high profile families, their absence causes rumors that they are having an affair. This book has mystery, romance, comic relief (the dust bunny), and paranormal with the different kinds of psy talents in the people in the story.This can be read as a stand alone. The first 2 in this trilogy explains the Alchemy of the lamp and the DNA changes. The entire Arcane series deals with people who have special psy talents, their jealousies, the 2 families feud, and good vs evil.I will be finishing this series. The books are well written, the characters and their different abilities are interesting and I can't wait to get the next in the Arcane series. Adam Winters, boss of Frequency Gill, and Marlowe Jones, boss of Arcane Society, combined their efforts to find the Burning Lamp that had gone missing, again. Once they found the Burning Lamp they had to figure out how to use it to keep the underworld catacombs from collasping.Midnight Crystal was the final book in the trilogy. Midnight Crystal was well written and held my interest. The story was one of the better paranormal stories. I enjoyed the way author Castle allowed the romance between Adam Winter and Marlow Jones play out. Tanya Eba did a great job in storytelling. I liked the way she used her voice to make every character unique.
