This is a delightful and fun series. Mischief in Mudbug could be read as a stand alone, but I think reading the first book and understanding the history between the characters enriches the story. Whereas Trouble in Mudbug centered around Maryse and her friends, this book centers around her friend Sabine looking for long lost relatives to help with a health scare, with the others as a supporting cast. At first I thought the story was going to be too similar in plot to the first book -- hero comes to town on a case, only to discover someone has made a couple of attempts on the damsel's life, unbeknownst to her at first. But the story soon developed a plot of its own and was quite interesting with lots of twists. When it came to sections concerning newly discovered relationships, at times I had to reread to stay on top of things. The ghost-in-law, Helena, is a hoot! Quite a fun mystery with a little romance thrown in. Just finished reading the first three of Jana Deleon’s “Ghost In-Law” stories, and had a blast! I even found myself laughing out loud at some of the antics of Helena Henry, the infamous Mother In-Law, who finds herself dead, and able to be seen by her ex-daughter in-law (Maryse). The first three books involve Maryse and two of her best friends, and a very convoluted series of kidnappings involving children, the FBI, and a mob “family”. I highly recommend these books, and look forward to reading more of Ms. Deleon’s books!
