The body is treacherous, the heart even more so. The body responds to trickery, while the heart loves the villain. With righteous indignation you are pulled to and fro, so caught up in the senses that the smartest part of all, the brain, ceases to exist.Cicely has come home. She has returned to chaos, to the man she has transcended time to be with, to the foulness of a new foe. Does war only have two sides, or is it like a cube tumbling with the break neck speed of a bird shot out of the sky? Because as you see, things are not always what they seem. There are not just merely Fae, merely witches, merely vampires. There are abominations, more sinister then the rest. Cicely is swept up in a battle she didn't ask for, with no one to trust. Old enemies will become united and Cicely will become a pawn.Having been signed into a contract to give blood to a foul vampire who makes her body respond on a basic level, finding out she is not what she was lead to believe, and to have very soul torn out for the man she can not save. Cicely will be tested. Her family will be torn asunder and new magnificent creatures will rise out of the ashes. The book's characters are just wonderful. You have fierce Cicely, who was raised by a druggy mother, has a wind elemental attached to her and can control the wind. Grieve, a fae and Cicely's only love. Rhiannon, Cicely's cousin and sister of the heart. A fierce firestarter. Leo, a healing mage and vampire runner by day. He also happens to be Rhia's love interest. Kaylin, a 100 year old part demon dreamwalker and friend of Leo's. And finally Chatter. Grieves best friend, a fae of non-noble decent. There are numerous vampires and fae that also come into play. All worthy of their own honorable mentions. ;) This book truly inspired. The descriptors that the author used was amazing. Blunt and brutal in the telling. You felt the need, the want, the hate, and even the love that the heroine feels. For a paranormal book to inspire such things, well it simply makes me happy. The genre as of late had seemed to be repetitive. A track on an old vinyl record skipping. But with this series, there has been new life breathed in. My hope is that this series is able to fast track itself into my top 10. Keep it up Ms. Galenorn, you have my attention. If I could change one this about this book, it would have been the lack of action. In a war, more blood and mayhem is needed. As it was the book was 4.5 stars for me. Judging by the other reviews, you will either hate it or love it. I am firmly in the latter camp. Really 3.75starsCicely Waters, a wind witch, has been summoned home to New Forest, Washington to help head off trouble that seems to be harming not only the magic born, but standard humans as well. When Cicely arrives she finds that most of the local coven has either been murdered or disappeared and she is also now head of the local coven. Cecily and her wind guardian are aware there is something lurking in the woods behind her aunt's house, and nothing is as she remembers it. Apparently Cecily's arrival is the catalyst for the vampire vs. vampiric fae war and everyone is a pawn. While this origin story started on a high note, it quickly devolved and I felt as if I came in the middle of the story. This is such a dense and layered tale it's like trying to read the sun. I found the very telling synopsis a great guidepost in finding a way into the story. The writing style was fine as was the pacing but I had difficulty connecting with the characters. Bedrock (I think) was unveiled about halfway through and this clever concept lends itself well to plotting various mystery elements and suspenseful opportunities. A war between fae, vampiric fae and vampires with magic-born as pawns and warriors holds great appeal. More effort on character development wouldn't have been amiss here as I spent more effort trying to determine what was happening that the effect on the character. I wanted to like this book more than I did and feel that the purpose of this story was all about preparation for the next release. I will read book two to see if there is any payoff in the great potential for the series and this also seems to be a series that needs an installment or two before things fall into place.
What do You think about Mondschein (2012)?
I dont know why but it was really difficult for me to get into this book.I kind of hated how cecily was just pushed around by everyone, I mean shes supposed to be powerful but yet she has two different groups using her, and another has her boyfriend captive. Just seemed like she was always reacting to everything, and the one time she tried to stand up to the fae queen she lost steam as soon as they started talking. In my opinion, any attempts she made to stand up for herself and her friends were pretty weak, just wanted her to be more offensive and use more magic to attack. Felt like Rhia was the stronger of the two actually. Also, hated all the scenes with Lannan. Just couldnt stand it. Comes a little too close to rape for me to feel comfortable and I just want Galenorn to kill him off. Preferably in a super painfully, torturous way. I want to read the rest of the series to find out what happens, and because Ive liked Galenorns writing before, but i just dont know if its worth it after that book.

I like to go into a series knowing nothing about it. Whether its good or not. It makes the reading experience even better. And wit this, it was just that. 3.5 for the most part and then near the end it slowly got to a 4. So you could say this is both 3.5 and 4 stars for me.The cover I kind of like, though mostly for the tattoos and the forest background. Not a fan of the whole girl standing, posing on the cover. But still, the book was pretty good for the most part. I liked the MC, I liked the other characters, the story was also good and of course the pacing really helped moved the story along.I couldn't help but be reminded of the Cassie series for some reason. Especially the character of Grieve. Not that that's a bad thing. Looking forward to reading more from this series. About time, I kept up with my list urban fantasy series to read.
