This was fun and the illustrations are great. I can't wait to have my kids listen to the song while looking at the pictures. The monsters (not particularly the expected Frankenstein and Dracula-but the made-up scary guys) are very imaginative and got my kids laughing. For example, there is a monster dog that had around seven noses, three eyes, big, long ears and a silly grin. This is a great one to have around Halloween or any time you want to get their creative juices flowing while drawing monsters. The zany and ghoulish illustrations created in pencil, watercolor, gouache, and ink take the lyrics of this song, first made popular way back in 1962, in a hilarious direction. Even some very plump rats get in on the fun as they dance about the laboratory, the graveyard, even on stage as the monsters form a band that includes Dracula. I can remember torturing my parents with this song while we were on a family vacation trip to Florida many decades ago. Gosh! I wish I'd had this picture book back then.
What do You think about Monster Mash (2012)?
I love David Catrow and I really want to do this one in storytime!
