Part of my personal Adam Rex festival. The quiet blue and brown opening spreads and the hyper-realistically drawn characters set the reader up beautifully for the surprising and magical events ahead.Favorite line: "It doesn't belong in our backyard," said Mom. "And I could do without the dogs."This one is for all the kids who ever sleepily gazed out the car window and were sure the moon was following them home. This will make a lovely bedtime book. When the full moon follows a little girl's family home and takes up residence in their backyard, things go a little haywire -- the town has a moonday. The girl enjoys playing on the moon (shades of Little Nemo here, who the book is dedicated to!) Everyone sleepily tries to go about their daily life, but it doesn't quite work. Would be great for a bedtime storytime, or one on night, with books like Papa Please Get the Moon for Me and Nina Crews I'll Catch the Moon.
As I read this, I kept thinking, "What did I miss?" "Why did the moon stick around?"

The illustrations are what made this book. Gorgeous and illuminating.
