My Big Fat Southern Gay Wedding (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
4 Cuddle Stars I love this series. Do not read this book without reading Book 1 and 2. They are a continuation of the same story. I want to cuddle it soooo much.Jack and Andrew are finding a way to make a life. It is not the easiest of situations, but they are determined to make it work. They have a little more going right now. But can they overcome the new problems? The separation? The hard work? Not everyone is as accepting as some of their friends from the past. Book 3 was very emotional and at times heartbreaking. This book wraps up Jack's and Andrew's journey to happiness. There are many bumps in the road that mature them yet strengthen their love. I liked how the road was not easy and problems weren't instantly solved. However I don't feel the book or series was really realistic at times. Often minor characters were either a 100% for their relationship or vehemently against it which I didn't find realistic. At times the author was a bit preachy throughout the series, which was a distraction. I think the series could have been 5star worthy if the author could have taken some of the focus off trying to give so many facts and obvious personal opinions. I think that the message of love and acceptance could have been more heartfelt if every moment was not focused on them fighting for acceptance, which caused me, as the reader, to constantly think of them as the 'gay' couple instead of just two individuals that love each other fiercely, unapologetically, and unconditionally. This is not my first same sex M/M series however it's the first I've read authored by York. The approach was different which is no way saying its negative or positive. I overall enjoyed the guys' journey and was rooting for their happines. I liked the focus on family dynamics as well the role that churches play in the acceptance of same sex couples. I would recommend this series to anyone that believe love conquers all.
What do You think about My Big Fat Southern Gay Wedding (2000)?
Least favorite--kept jumping around, ended too neatly, generally weird.
