Saturday morning meant no school for the kids, so rather than force Bryan out of bed at daybreak, he decided to cut the kid a little slack. After the strides he’d made the night before, he didn’t want to push his luck. Bryan had been so excited to drive the sleigh, so proud of himself when they reached the Rawlings place. He’d helped to unhitch the horses and bed them down, before they pulled the sleigh into a nearby shed. All the while he questioned Tuck about the ranch and the horses and the boys who lived there. Tuck had answered every query, but his mind hadn’t been on horses or Snake Creek. Instead, he had counted the minutes until he got back to Grace’s house, wondering if she’d be waiting. And if she was, what might happen between them that night. But by the time he’d returned, the house was silent. He’d been forced to lie in his bed on the third floor and review each kiss they’d shared since that very first one.
