My Sweet Valentine: A Pride Series Novel (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
I received a complementary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.Sara moved back home to Pride, Oregon after leaving Seattle where she was being stalked. She is now living with her mother and sister. After working at someone else's bakery Sara now wants her own business so opens Sara's Nook. As soon as she came to town, she met Allen who is a retired Navy SEAL and is now running a Coast Guard rescue station in Pride. They are immediately attracted to each other but Sara wants to focus on her new business so she avoids Allen. On top of that, Sara's stalker has followed her to Pride so she really has a lot on her plate and no time for romance.Sara was a wonderful character and I liked her a lot. She was strong and determined to make her business succeed, not letting her stalker win. I must admit that I love stories with men from the military and Allen was perfect for me. He was gorgeous, strong and tried to help Sara with her stalker problems.I like the author's writing style. Pride is so well described that you can picture the town and the people who live there clearly. I loved the town of Pride and would like to live there. I would especially visit Sara's Nook! I liked that My Sweet Valentine had both mystery and romance and I loved the ending. It left me smiling as I read the last sentence. Sara Lander moved back to Pride after being gone for several years. She moved back home with her mom and younger sister but hopes that she won't have to live there much longer. Not that she doesn't love them but they depend on her to cook and clean since her mom is always busy working and her sister is spoiled. Sara has her eye on the antique shop that Allison owed. It's been vacant for years now and Sara has always deemed of owning her own bakery. One thing you can't get in Pride is a decent cup of coffee and she knows that when add that with her desserts and pastries, it will be a huge success without taking business for the Golden Oar Restaurant. Hints aren't always easy though, especially when a crazy stalker had followed you home. Allen Masters has been in Pride for a couple of years now helping to set up and now run the Coast Guard training camp. He loves the town and the people but it wasn't until he saw Sara that he felt complete. He felt connected to her almost at once and once he tasted her sinful desserts, he was a goner. But strange things keep happening to Sara and he knows that she's hiding something. This story starts out before Red Heart Christmas ends so there are brief parts that over lap but don't worry it isn't the boring kind of overlapping where you have to read everything again. It's just a new perspective. I enjoyed this book more than Red Hot Christmas because the mystery and suspense that was lacking in that book was back in this one. One thing that saddens me is that his looks to be the last of the Pride backs, at least for now. There is a spinoff series called the secrets series though. The first book features one of the side characters that you met in the Pride books. I highly recommend the whole series but each can be read as a standalone but are much more enjoyable when read in order.
