The Guardians of Childhoodseries kicks off its epic tale with one of the most beautifully illustrated picture books my sons and I have ever seen. Called The Man in the Moon, it is about a little boy, who escapes from the evil Nightmare King, Pitch. And though his parents are killed in the battle against Pitch, the Nightmare King and his Fearlings are defeated by the elusive Nightlight, and they disappear for centuries. Pitch’s goal, we know at the close of the Man in the Moon, is to return to earth bringing nightmares back into the dreams of its innocent children.The Man in the Moon (MiM), who has escaped the fate of his parents, starts to gather forces for the imminent battle. His warriors will be St. Nicholas, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman, the Tooth Fairy, and others like them – all reluctant heroes who step up to the plate to defend the world’s children.This is a wonderful series! William Joyce wrote what is probably the most memorable and beloved children's book from my childhood: Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo. So when my fiance, a children's librarian, told me about this particular series I wanted to give it a try.The art is absolutely gorgeous and the story William Joyce has spun together for the Guardians universe is fantastic. These picture books are a joy to read and a pleasure to view.

Reads like a bedtime story. Illustrations are amazing but the story itself wasn't as appealing.
