I love this author's books with the goslings, so I picked this one up to give it a try. Natalie was indifferent to this one, though she asks for the gosling ones multiple times. I think that Natalie didn't understand the subtly in the story. I liked how the old bear gives the little bear "the look" to get him to behave. But even more, I liked the role reversals at the end when the little bear takes care of the older bear. This book was ok for me. My 3 year old's interested wasn't really captivated, but that sometimes happens with new books. The illustrations were beautiful. The story got somewhat repetitious at times, but it is a kid's book and that is actually a good thing. I didn't like the misbehavior of Little Cub but I did like how he came around and obeyed...and then showed his love by helping Old Bear. This is probably not a book that I would have picked out, but received from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for my son. This book is good for ages 2-6. Overall, it was just ok.
What do You think about Old Bear And His Cub (2010)?
As always, Dunrea's watercolors are the star of the show. Not that it is a bad thing.
