On Location (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the second book of the Secrets of My Hollywood Life series by Jen Calonita. The reader catches up with Kaitlin right before she begins her movie shoot. She is dating Austin and attempting to learn her lines while waiting for filming to begin. However, nothing ever seems to run smoothly in Kaitlin's life. She goes to an emergency meeting and finds out that there is a new studio publicist and co-star for her beloved Hutch Adams project. Can you guess who that co-star is? Of course, it's Sky. So, now Kaitlin has to deal with her ex-boyfriend (the one that broke her heart and used her to get to the top), Sky, and the crazy new publicist. The stress mounts up once again, and Kaitlin has to find a way to calm herself down and go through the movie. You know what else is bad, Hutch is horrible on set. He yells at everyone. Kaitlin's dream job is just not what she had hoped for. Can she make it through all of this drama? Can her relationship with Austin survive her working with her ex-boyfriend (who seems a little too close when the cameras around)? Also, how is Kaitlin going to deal with all of the bad press that comes with the look of dating two boys at once?I love these books, so I can't give a review without first putting that bias out there. I read these out of order, so at the moment I am catching up. On location gives the reader an idea of what a real movie set ends up being like. It's not as glamorous as we might hope. However, I'm more interested in the soap opera like stories that seem to suck me in. The drama that goes between her and Sky and the undermining things that go into the press are just like reading the tabloids in the grocery store. They are addicting even though you know it is fake.Austin is just the cutest boy ever and he is perfect for our sweet, naive Kaitlin. He reminds me of a couple of my students. They want to give advice even when they have no idea what they are talking about. They also have a tendency to believe that teenagers should be in complete control of their own lives (famous, or not). Perhaps that is just a teenage trait in general, but it is endearing to me. I can't wait to continue this series and I hope that you will join me in reading them.

What do You think about On Location (2008)?

I love the first book in this series, Secrets of My Hollywood Life and I couldn’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series! On Location, book two, was just as fun, cute and a quick read! Kaitlin is back in this second installment and her life is going great. She’s got a great boyfriend, the media loves her and she’s about to being working on a movie by her favorite director; life couldn’t be better. But this is Kaitlin, a big star and she’s in Hollywood. There is always something going on in Hollywood. And soon, the plot thickens when a slimy ex comes into the picture and everything goes downhill from there. The plot did seem repetitive but I can understand that the same things can happen over and over again. Kaitlin was a great protagonist once again and there was a lot more character building in this book than there was in the first book. I really did feel for her though, since she seemed to always get the bad end of the stick and everyone was after her. But then again, if everything wasn’t against her and she didn’t prevail, we wouldn’t have such a good story! While the writing wasn’t absolutely exceptional, it was very entertaining and I highly enjoyed reading about Kaitlin’s new adventure. I’m currently read book three and I’m liking it too!

It seems like Kaitlin Burke's all dreams have come true. She is having the best summer of her life; she has just signed in to her favorite director's Hutch Adams' blockbuster movie, she is loved by the media again after her two months disguise in a ordinary High School and she has the most gorgeous boyfriend ever, Austin Meyers. But like always, when the things are going well something bad starts to happen.Drew, Kaitlin's slimy ex and her co-star for the Hutch movie is all over Kaitlin even though he was the one who dumbed her. When Carol, a new publicist tells that part of Kaitlin's movie contract is to be seen with Drew all over Hollywood things get diffifult. Kaitlin hates Drew. And when the filming to the movie starts Kaitlin gets to know that her rival, her co-star from the Family Affairs, Sky Mackenzie has also been booked to the new Hutch movie. Even Hutch is something different Kaitlin always thought.Austin remains to be a wonderful boyfriend, but difficulties with him start when Kaitlin cannot be honest about things concerning Drew. Is Kaitlin ready to tell everything about her past to Austin? Why cannot Kaitlin be honest? Does she fear that her heart will be broken again? This book is a sequel to Secrets of my Hollywood Life by Jen Calonita. There is also a 3rd and 4th book in the series and I am really looking forward to read them. If you like the Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot I guarantee you will love the Secrets of my Hollywood Life.
