Okay, so I always sang the song "Over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house we go" and it's "grandfather's house we go". I learned something from this book that I thought I could recite every verse. Christopher Manson does a fine job on his illustrations and his use of light, but I would have like to see a more Americana version of sketches. This slightly European flair just doesn't quite match the storyline for me. This traditional Thanksgiving tale, which pairs an energetic and catchy rhyme scheme with simple language, evokes distinct sensations – one can feel the cold as the family goes through the snow, hear the bells of the sleigh, and smell the delicious apple pie served at grandmother’s house. The charming woodcut illustrations are cheery and colorful and the use of the medium adds authenticity to this 19th century tale.
Beautifully illustrated and fun for parents and children to read ( and sing) together. A keeper.
