Rebel asks as I walk around the lab, gathering ingredients and equipment. “Making more immunity serum.” If I don’t keep busy, I’m going to keep thinking about everything that’s happened in the last couple of days. And if I do that, I’m going to start crying—and I don’t want to start crying. I can’t give in to the despair. Not now, when there’s still so much to do. Still so much to take care of. Everyone else can search for clues. Only I can do this. “The last batch I made got left at the cabin,” I explain. “Do we have time for that?” Deacon asks, peering over my shoulder. “We’re making time,” I answer. “This is the only way we know to break Rex’s mind control. Don’t you think it’s a good idea to have some of it around? Maybe that craziness upstairs would never have happened if we’d been able to immunize them.”
