Roadside Assistance (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I'm not very religious and this book has a lot about Christianity, but this book gives you faith. Good book overall. I've never experienced loss that close, so I don't really know what she's going through. I won't even try to imagine it because I love my mom and I don't know why I would do without her. Like Emily though, I know I would get through it. Slowly but surely. Do I recommend it? Sure if you have experienced loss recently or if you've been struggling with faith. This book is about a girl who lost everything, her house, her friends, her support system, her dream & most importantly, her mom. All while everyone is trying to mold her into a perfect girl (who she is not, and HATES shopping, while her dad does nothing because they gave them a roof over her head). All thanks to cancer. Emily was uprooted when her dads garage went out of business. They moved in with her aunt & perfect, honor roll student, miss popular, perfect little Christian cousin, Whitney. Along with all that, Emily feels like God has abandoned her. Oh, WARNING: Extremely religious. Was a little tough for a non-religious person, and they're very in your face about it. Anyway, so Emily feels like God has forgotten her, but then she realizes, no! He hasn't & was with her all along. Of course this was all with dealing with the shyness of her Boyfriend/best friend Tyler breaking up with her & ruining her confidence. Since she is a mechanic/car EXPERT, she is shy & feels it turns off guys. She also feels shut out from her family & like no body likes HER & paying attention to HER. She feels her dad is shutting her out, and everyone is just TOO concerned, and of course, doubts their sincerity. With all of this going on, it fell a little petty, flat & boring, but if your a religious person, you would thoroughly enjoy it, because religion plays such a big role. It lost a star from it's expected 4 star rating because the blurb that went with it, I thought, didn't really tell how hard hitting the religion was & didn't fully appreciate what it was actually about.
