Wonderfully concise build up to the climax and well arranged resolution. Harper Blaine makes friends with a moderately antagonistic detective. And she becomes a true hero acting altruistically as well as completing her assignment. Many good things all at once! There are also evil monster otters and mermaids and the Sea Witch. The end notes are interesting, as well. All in all, my favorite so far (after the first book). Enjoyed following the character trajectories of the monsters as well as the "good guys." And there's some pirate fun, too.I'm catching up with the books between 3 and 6, so I may find another "favorite" in there. I agree with some of the other reviews that the boat information was a little much at times and sometimes did bog down the story. However, it was still a great installment in this series which has never been disappointing. Looking forward to more development of the storyline with Quinton's father. Hoping to see more alliances between some of the paranormals and maybe a return of some previous characters with this plot line. Also hoping a future book explains more about Detective Solis' wife and mother-in-law; that could be interesting.
I have liked #6 and 7 better than the middle books.
