Seven Nights In A Rogue's Bed (Mills & Boon M&B) (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
This book had a historical beauty and the beast theme. Hero is scarred and convinced he looks like a monster. Heroine is there to pay off her sister's gambling debts..with her body. I felt like this book had a lot of potential, but it didn't follow through. The heroine's sister was annoying. I didn't feel an emotional connection between hero and heroine. They had lots of steamy moments, but they fell flat. It was just ok. But I will keep reading the series because it had glimpses of greatness. A fairly enjoyable Regency romance - though I did start to lose interest a bit in the middle - more the fault of me than the fault of the book. Sidonie was a good, strong character. The sexual tension in the first half was very engaging. I don't know - maybe this is why I don't read much romance - when the main characters inevitably start disliking each other, or, in this case, a secret drives them apart - I kind of lose interest. I'm thinking "just get over it and get on with it". I know it's a major plot point of romance and, quite honestly, there wouldn't be much of a story without it, but it's just not really my thing. That said, I did still mostly enjoy this book. You can see that Anna has done some thorough and careful research. Being as my knowledge of the Regency period isn't that good, I had to find an online Regency dictionary to help me with some of the terms in the text. I like that though. I like that I can learn something about history in the midst of a romance.Maybe not just now, but I'm sure I'll be picking up another Anna Campbell - the thinking woman's Regency romance!Haven't read anything by Anna Campbell in a while, so getting into this ahead of her visit to do a Write Around Moreton Bay writers seminar on writing steamy sex scenes next month. Not usually a romance reader, but the lovely Anna does spin a good yarn...
