Aaron and Quinn, I love you so! This was a great story and I have to go read the sequel immediately. One of my favorite types of stories is slow burn and, boy oh boy, this sure was slow. Quinn was so emotionally damaged with low self-esteem and his use sex and alcohol to fix everything attitude. And Aaron, so sweet and strong and willing to wait as long as necessary to finally get Quinn. I loved the author's writing style in this one, the story itself, the slow build-up of the romance, and the final chapters were issues finally started to resolve for Quinn, and for Aaron as well. I highly recommend this to all my friends. Reading Shying Away, I found myself thinking of how refreshing it is to find the focus on the issues characters have to work out rather than the characters themselves. Sure, our protagonists are likeable folks. But where (in my recent experience, anyway) "issues" have seemed a means to fill out character, here, characters seem a bit more a means of exploring "issues". Aaron and Quinn work through things like healing old hurt, gaining a little understanding, learning a bit of compassion in a way that I could really connect to, with a nice balance of angst and humour. I rather liked the supporting cast as well. I did have a vague sense that the resolution was a bit rushed, but overall, a very pleasant read.
