Silver Borne (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

Another thrilling adventure/mystery in the crazy area of the tri-cities, with Mercedes at the helm, fighting for self and her pack in this fantastical realm. A must read continuation of the series that leaves you hoping that this is not the end. What will those crazy fae/vamps/wolves think up next, according to Miss Briggs we'll have to wait a year to find out!In the meantime there's the Alpha Omega series to bite into Okay, the author is very entertaining, I'll give her that. I read four books in one week. (Three from the Alpha and Omega series, plus this one.) I don't know if it's fair to judge all the Mercy Thompson books by this one that's so late in the series, but I didn't like it as much.Like I said, the fantasy world is entertaining, but inconsistent. Fae are like this, except when they're not. Fae have to follow these rules, except when they don't. Huh? I kind of started to lose track of the rules in the wolf pack, as well. The pack behaves like this because that's the way wolves are in the wild, except that wolves in the wild have a pack to protect themselves and their young and ensure the survival of the species. I learned in the Alpha and Omega series that werewolves can't bear young. If they can't bear young, why do they need bonded mates? Why aren't they promiscuous (some species are)? If mates aren't for bearing young and building the pack, why do the wolves care if a pack member is gay or not.Mercy and Adam's relationship was also unconvincing. If I understand it right, they've known each other for a LONG time. After hanging out for so long (just friends and then more than friends) why do they still have situations where they're thinking, "I can't talk to my mate about something because they might think something else." To be honest, I struggle to relate to most relationships that I read about or see in movies and TV. I have an awesome marriage. The dysfunction and drama that constitutes a "romantic" relationship in fiction just doesn't do much for me.
