Sovereign Hope (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I loved the cover and was really looking forward to reading it (yep, I'm superficial in that way.) Except for a couple typos, which slipped through, I wasn't disappointed. From the very first page, the action didn't stop. Granted, it took me a little bit to understand what was going on, and during the first few pages, I felt like I was battling a tidal wave without any sense of direction - a tad bit more information would have been helpful. But after that first tumble, the rest pulled me in.It was nice to see some new paranormal 'monsters' besides the normal vampires, demons, werewolves and Co. Although I'm still not sure how they fit together with the real world (hoping that will be explained in the next book(s) a little better), they were wonderfully nasty, and I loved hating them. I especially enjoyed the complexity of the bad guys. Although one group is definitely marked as evil, the other groups in Frankie's paranormal world fall more into a grey area. Yes, there's plenty of room for a sequel. The romance was the way I like it, not hot and heavy but a build-up. Daniel, the hero, is strong and courageous and true and all those things a hero should be - except, he's got a bit of an attitude. Sometimes this was a little (too) heavy, and I wished Farley would just punch him in the nose. Gosh, he deserved it. But in general, he was very likable, and of course, I was cheering them both on, hoping they'd find a way to overcome their problems and get together.Sovereign Hope was one of those fun books to read, which kept me up to all hours of the night. There's no boring moments, the fight scenes are great and the characters pulled me in. There were a couple short moments, where things aren't quite clear, but in general, it reads very smoothly. It definitely has potential to become a great book. What a great YA book this series is!! It is very appropriate for young readers, but has a tremendous story for us older readers that enjoy this genre as well! Sovereign Hope is full of twists and turns that kept me guessing what in the world would happen to Farley and her friends at all times. I never knew the outcome... and I love that aspect of this book!Farley thought her mother was missing, the police had no clues to go on so she had no idea what happened to her mom. It was becoming more like the girl who cried wolf with her reporting to the cops. She was frustrated, alone, and worried sick. Not to mention that her paranoia has sky rocketed with her fear for her mother. She is constantly looking over her shoulder and imagining things that no one else can see... or at least that is what the doctors have said.Little does Farley know, that she is special. She was born to an alien race of beings that she has never heard of, and doesn't quite believe. She is on her way home one day and feels that she is being followed. To her rescue comes a cute, green eyed boy (Daniel) that can do things humans shouldn't be able to do. Farley feels like she is losing her mind and her heart with just one glance his way.Farley is about to go on an adventure of her lifetime... the question is will she make it out alive??? Daniel will get even more secretive, her friends will be endangered, and Farley will have to dig deep for courage, strength, and hope. I give Sovereign Hope 4 stars on the knock my socks off scale! I cannot wait for the next book in this series to see where Farley's adventure takes her!
