Spike: A Dark Place (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Why only a limited series?Spike: A Dark Place was amazing if only too short. The plot fits nicely, the action is great and the dialogue is pure Spike. I LOVED it!Two downsides: At first, Spike being alone, there aren't enough dialogues which is where the character shines. Instead, we get too much of Spike thinking. The other thing is that it was way too short. I would have taken a lot more of Morgan as a sidekick and possible love interest to Spike. I would have taken a lot more of Spike's adventures. The character truely deserves his own ongoing series, not just cameos and spin offes. Sadly, because it was just the one stroy arc, the story felt a little rushed and we do not see as much character progression as we got use to in Buffy's series (altough we do see some).Overall, an awesome trade, but leaving you wanting more. Spike's one of my favorite, favorite Whedonverse characters. I was kinda psyched to find this spin-off, and while it wasn't perfect, I adored it. The bugs never really made an impression on me in the Buffy series, but they were quite loveable here. (How could you not just want to hug poor, sweet Sebastian?) I'll miss them if they don't turn up again. Spike was also in good form and the dialogue was snappy as always. The plot, unfortunately, was the main problem here. It felt really abrupt and rushed. I would have liked there to have been more time for development, but, at least, the story that was present wasn't too bad. Mainly, A Dark Place seemed like a bridge meant to lead the reader from where Spike's storyline left off in Buffy's series to whatever comes next for him. It's not a great standalone, but it would work as an intro to a bigger Spike tale.

What do You think about Spike: A Dark Place (2013)?

Spike's Spike and the bugs get resolved. All-in-all, a solid piece of the Buffy canon.
