Stroke! (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

A super cute short story about young love and enemies who become lovers! It was easy to immediately recognize the path this story was going to travel, but that didn’t diminish my enjoyment one bit. All of the emotions that were built and that I experienced were spot on for the length and timing of the story. I really enjoyed the big reveal scene, and of course, the kisses:) Definitely recommended for anyone who wants a lighter read that will leave you feeling a little warm and fuzzy!! Reviewed for heartsonfirereviews.com My, oh my. I noticed this because of the title, and was lucky enough that this was such a lovely story. I will admit, books about online lovers are a favorite genre of mine. Something so delicious about getting to know someone completely based on words, and then seeing if the real life person is as good. Owen Peters is a senior college student and a member of the rowing team. He sits in six seat, and he has a younger competitor for the spot. Elijah “Asshole” Lukas. Elijah, you have to dislike him. He sneers, he mocks, he provokes, he generally acts like a complete and utter, yep, asshole. He also manages to occasionally get Owen’s spot on the A boat, relegating Owen to B-boat. It’s Owen’s last year at college, he doesn’t want to give it up. Particularly to a sophomore.Luckily for Owen, there is a bright spot in his day, and that is Davis, his online gamer friend, who becomes his online friend. Davis is really the first to know that Owen is gay. Luckily for both of them, Davis is as well. The two get headsets and form a deep friendship during their talks. One that maybe will turn into something more. It also gives Owen the chance to vent about Elijah and the very real fear that Elijah is going to gain that important seat. This story made me smile, and really like Owen. I wanted to clock Elijah, such a tool. The eventual meeting with Davis doesn’t go at all as Owen had hoped, but there’s good in that as well. A quick light read, sweet and hopeful.
