I've been reading Rucka since he published his first novel, Keeper, and everything he does has a trademark grit and authenticity to it. Stumptown is no exception. I completed this first arc in one sitting and enjoyed it immensely. Set in Portland, it captures the feel of the city and the main protagonist, Dex, comes off in a tenacious and rogue way that is both believable and readable. I look forward to future editions and will proudly recommend Stumptown in the same way I've pointed friends to Queen & Country. You will not be disappointed! Really impressive. I sometimes found the darker colour tones exhausting, but that may well be me and my dodgy vision just now. I really liked the kind of bumbling protagonist PI -- how often do we get a female character centre stage who isn't a paragon of all best things? -- and want to read more of her adventures while simultaneously wanting her to just be handed a whole lot of no-strings-attached cash and take her little brother on vacation to someplace nice and non-violent.
Rockford Files with a female protagonist and tons of great female characters! What's not to love?

I liked it - think Jim Rockford if he were a bi woman with a gambling problem living in Portland.
