It was like an opulent underground resort, not the simple caverns she and her siblings used in Earth. Even the family one on their estate in northern Italy wasn’t this gorgeous. What would it be like for her family to settle someplace? She could see her sisters doing something like this, decorating, staking a claim on a place of their own. A glimmer of hope for her siblings flickered in her gut. She wanted this for them. A small part of her wanted this for her as well. Something of her own that she didn’t have to leave behind in a few years, a decade at most. She hadn’t even lived a nomadic life for a fraction of the time they had, and already the temptation of permanence drew her in. “It’s beautiful.” A retreat. She told herself not to get attached. It was all too much, too soon to trust or fully grasp what she’d be giving up in return. “The staff sometimes party here. I made sure we’d have it to ourselves.” She turned and stared at him.
