As the bus rounded the corner past the ferry, the chorus became louder and then Raymond was out of his seat, swinging his book bag at the heads of some kids sitting a few seats behind him. Roger brought the bus to a stop, but Raymond continued his attack, swearing and flailing. Roger got up out of his seat and calmly grabbed the book bag, took Raymond’s arm, and led him to the front of the bus. The two kids sitting in the front seat quickly moved and Rachel could see Raymond slumped down, covering his face with his arms. Roger got back in the driver’s seat and continued on down the road as if nothing had happened. When Roger pulled the bus into the driveway, the twins were the first ones out. Rachel held back, picking up some of the garbage at the back of the bus while Roger gave Raymond a bus slip and assured him that the kids who were teasing him would be getting one, too. Rachel could see that Raymond had started to cry. Roger left the bus and walked with Raymond to the house.
