I enjoyed this African twist on the tale of the three little pigs. The book was very colorful and the illustrations were interesting and had an ethnic feel to them. I also liked how Jan Brett used different materials that would have been found in the dessert for the dassies to use to build their houses. The children would enjoy this book. Lots of rich vocabulary for the children to engage with as well . This book is a retelling of the classic story, The Three Little Pigs. The main changes and twists to this story are that the setting and characters are different. The main characters of this story are three dassies who are preyed upon by hungry eagles. Just as from the original Three Little Pigs story, the dassies build shelters which will provide them with warmth, shelter, and safety from the hungry eagles. This book is a great example of teaching students craft of writing. Also, it can show students how the main plot can remain the same with altered characters and settings.
