“I have it,” I confirmed. “Definitely call me and we’ll go for coffee. Thank you, Steph. I really enjoyed meeting you and Joe, and thank you again for dinner. It was delicious.” “You’re so welcome, sweetie. Aiden – make sure you bring Lina with you the next time you come to the cabin,” Stephanie said sternly. Aiden gave her an uncomfortable smile but didn’t say anything as I shook Joe’s hand and we left the warmth of their house. “Toodles! Be careful walking home! Love you!” Stephanie hollered as Joe closed the door. Aiden and I walked silently through the falling snow. It was very dark and I stumbled a little as King brushed past me and bounded ahead of us. Aiden reached over and took my hand without speaking. “Thanks.” He nodded and I held his hand tightly as he led me through the deep snow. By the time we reached the cabin, I was feeling the bite of the wind and I hurried into the warmth of the cabin. Aiden dropped my hand and immediately started to build up the fire as I took off my jacket and boots. I perched on one of the stools at the island as Aiden pulled out the couch and gave me an oddly nervous look.
