Continues the first Borrowers book, and picks up where Mrs. May left off in her stories to Kate. Mrs. May inherits a cottage and takes Kate back to the old house, where the Borrowers' story began. Old Tom Goodenough realizes who Mrs. May is, and starts talking to Kate, telling her the story of how young Tom Goodenough became involved with the tiny 6" borrowers.
