The Candy Shop War, Book 2: Arcade Catastrophe (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I'm impressed with Brandon's ability to think up new and different ideas. Instead of just candy, we now have magic ink, and new enhanced abilities for the good and bad characters. This was a good read, a nice continuation of the previous book. Exciting action. With the chance that we'll get another book in this series.I do feel that there was less of the moral dilemma type of decisions that the children had to face in the first book. Nate had to choose whether he was willing to die for the rest of the world, but even that decision seemed like it wasn't developed as well it could have been (it just happened too quickly). It was also much more focused on Nate with less character development of the other children. I really enjoyed this second installment of the Candy Shop Wars. The story used characters from the previous book, but had it's own story. The challenges for the children were risky and more dangerous, but, where the children wanted magic for their own gain in the last story, this time they use magic to save their friends.I was a little disappointed that Nate seemed to be the biggest star of this book again because I think there was great potential in the other kids and would have liked to see Trevor use his Bear form to do more, or Pigeon to have a more pivotal role since he seems to sacrifice so much for the others. I like Nate, but I don't think he needs to be the only one who achieves success. That being said, my family loved this story. We listened to it while on a road trip, and played it in the house after the trip because we couldn't stand the suspense of waiting another day to hear the ending. I think it was more exciting than the first book, and can't wait to hear what happens with Camilla White in the third.
What do You think about The Candy Shop War, Book 2: Arcade Catastrophe (2012)?
I loved the whole adventure. Nate's determination to stop Jonas White is admirable.
