I was going back and forth between a three and a four, but ended up giving it a three in the end because Roxanna's character became a little irrational (I felt) toward the second half of the book, feelings/events being rehashed right after they had already been rehashed and in the end I'm left wondering why Cassius even likes Roxanna.With all that being said this had an intriguing story line and Cassius' character was quite intriguing along with the historical aspects surrounding it. The Kentucky frontier in 1779 is no place for a lady like Roxanna. She finds herself alone in the world, trapped in a frontier fort and falls in love with the fiery Colonel Cassius McLinn.I enjoyed Roxy's solid grounding in all things moral and scriptural. The story was interesting, albeit some of it less believable. Well portrayed characters. Definitely a romance, but it had me wondering about the actual history of the era.
