I have a couple words to sum up this book: action movie in a book. The entire book felt like a series of epic fight scenes. The second book was a big step up from the first...the magic system is a bit more fleshed out, writing and story transitions are greatly improved, characters are still a bit one-sided but at least they've developed a bit.The story is pretty simple and straightforward, no twists and turns come up, but I'm giving this book 4 stars because I enjoyed all the dramatic fights! And speaking of which, a couple things here actually remind me of the anime Dragon Ball Z...you've got dimensions where time passes by differently in which the main character trains himself, and, of course, the fast whizzing action scenes where the fighters are moving so quickly that they're nothing more than a blur to the audience/readers. All the juvenile and jumbled bits of the first book I had complaints about, which resolved themselves by the end of it do not manifest again here - this is a solid trilogy-middle, fast paced, full of important action, leading from the buildup of book 1 into the final conflict of book 3 with a steady build. Like the prequel, it retains countless Sanderson influences, too many to list, and all of them to great effect. At this rate, book 3 might just land a 4.5 with me. I am liking this series far more than I expected initially, and am tearing through it. I'm curious to see what the three supplementary novella things add, and eager to see where Wight goes next - he's following Sanderson's lead and doing it well, so he's got real promise. 4/5
