Warm night, can't sleep, another book finished! I was instantly engaged by the narrator and was thoroughly enjoying part one, even though not a great deal was happening. Then we moved on to Part Two, the manuscript he wrote about his relationship with the editor and his wife - and it nearly lost me. I can't decide whether Part Two was meant to be the "meat" of the book or just a flashback to explain the rest - if it was the meat, it was disappointing. If it was just a flashback, then it went on for FAR longer than was necessary. Besides, I found parts of it - like the gift of money - simply unbelievable. Luckily I did soldier on through that section and got to Part Three, where things livened up again, although there was an element of farce and coincidence threatening to surface. I have to say I didn't like the twist at the end - the circumstances which prevented them getting together earlier weren't believable so it felt contrived. I hadn't predicted it because given the standard of the rest of the writing, I didn't expect a Mills & Boon ending.
The name's catchy! So I started reading it and left Freya North's Secrets hanging. (done reading after this book though) Unexpectedly, I found the first chapters boring. Maybe because the appearance of Diana's name gave me a clue about the title and what will happen next. But it gained my interest again somewhere in the second part. With the way the author put a little twist (complications) on Diana's and Chris' relationship. Generally, this is a good book, full of true-to-life experiences, full of true-to-life thoughts.

My Goodreads system let me down today in the library. I'd forgotten to move this book into the "read" category and picked it up again this morning. Luckily the friendly librarian was on hand to point out that I was an idiot who had read the book a few months ago. I should quickly say that this says more about by ability to forget (or even never bother to know) the title of the book I'm reading. I can even read an entire book without paying much attention to the names of the main characters. What can I say, I just operate on a need to know basis. Anyway, this was an interesting story. A little bit meandering at the end but enjoyable nonetheless. Who's partner should you really not sleep with? And what manner of disasters might arise if you do?
