My daughter, wife and I were all sitting around the dinner table. “Lana, I don’t know. Something about letting a complete stranger come and live with us feels weird to me,” I responded. One of the other parents in the neighborhood had decided to let a foreign exchange student live with them. Once Lana caught wind of it, it was all that was on her mind. “Daddy, think about how much we could learn about another culture,” she said, pouting her bottom lip out. She knew that I was a sucker for that, but I was really trying to stand my ground on the issue. My wife, Nancy, touched me on the shoulder. “Why don’t we at least think about it?” she asked. I rolled my eyes. Nancy was always making me second-guess my decisions. “Lana, will you go upstairs and let your mom and I discuss this?” I asked. A smile crossed Lana’s face. She knew that she was most likely going to get what she wanted. She got up from the table and skipped out of the room. I listened as she walked up the stairs and into her bedroom.
