The Invitation (Matchmaker Trilogy) - Plot & Excerpts
“Either could be it,” Victoria decided. “Or neither,” said Shaye. Noah mopped his face on the sleeve of his T-shirt. “If you ask me, there are half a dozen other rocks here that could fit the bill.” He received three dirty looks so quickly that he held up a hand. “Okay. Okay. I’ll admit that these two are more distinctive than the others.” He frowned at the rock. “What do you think, Samson—could the markings be man-made?” “They could be, but I don’t think they are. Even allowing for lousy artistry and the effects of time, something man-made would be more exact. These are just irregular enough to look authentic.” “Which leaves the major problem of choosing between the two rocks,” Shaye reminded them. “Does the map give any clue?” Samson removed the map from his shirt pocket and extended it to her. She unfolded it and studied it. Victoria peered in from her right side, Noah hung over her left shoulder. After a short time, Shaye and Victoria looked at each other in dismay.
