The Lemonade Crime (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

The Lemonade Crime (The Second book in the Lemonade War Series)By: Jacqueline DaviesReview By: Joon Sung OhThis book is about the main characters, Evan and Jessie Treski, who try to get their stolen money back from a neighbor named Scott Spencer, who was in fourth grade, the same grade as them. A week ago, he was at a friend's pool partly with them, when he took the 208 dollars that Evan and Jessie had saved up from selling lemonade. So, Evan and Jessie come up with a plan to get the money back as well as get revenge on Scott for buying an Xbox with their money, which was to have a kids' court. In the end, it all ends in a mystery-no one says that they stole the money, nor saw someone stealing the money.I think that this book is engaging for the most part, but gets boring in the parts of the story where the class is just talking back and forth. But there are several parts in the book that have suspenseful moments. An example is, "Scott was quick, but Evan was quicker. He came up from behind, and just as Scott was shooting the ball, Evan clawed it out of the air, whacking it so hard it smacked down on the blacktop. (121)"In conclusion, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a thrill of suspense. This book is action packed and has many places where it surprises you with something you were not expecting. This book is appropriate for middle schoolers, because it has a section near the back of the book where Evan tries to get a final revenge by hurting Scott in a game of basketball. He makes Scott get injured, and his hands bleed from scraping the ground. I think that anyone who likes twists and turns should read this book. Davies, Jacqueline. (2011). The Lemonade Crime. New York: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. 978-0-547-72237-5 A very cute sequel to The Lemonade War. It contains a very good story line, and well developed themes. Basically, $208 is missing from Evan's shorts pocket. Scott turns up with a new XBOX 20/20 and is bragging about it. Evan is convinced it was bought with his stolen money. His sister Jessie helps to hold a classroom "trial" to prove Scott's guilt or innocence. There's just one problem....Scott's mom is a lawyer! Read to find out what happens next!
