Book as deck of cards - each is labelled with an "ultimate": Death, Infinity, Soul, Destiny, Courage (there are two cards, or seven, that contain this word). On the Joker is a picture of the uncomfortable, rotten Earth, with burn marks on México and Chile. Take this deck of cards, shuffle them, cut them up, scatter and regather them, cut and paste them together. There is no card for Charisma: it holds the cards together without consciousness of form. It is a charisma that convinces me (to be afraid) that the author's courage was realized not only in this book. 'rain' must be my favorite in the collection, though i very much enjoyed lupe too, just because i know lupe from savage detectives, and i liked remembering her.RainIt's raining and you say it's as if the cloudswere crying. Then cover your mouth and speed upyour step. As if those emaciated clouds were crying?Impossible. So then, why all this rage,This desperation that'll bring us all to hell?Nature hides some of her methodsin Mystery, her stepbrother. And so, sooner thanyou think, this afternoon you consideran afternoon of the apocalypse, will seem nothing buta melancholy afternoon, an afternoon of loneliness lostin memory: Nature's memory. Or maybeyou'll forget it. Rain, weeping, your footstepsresounding on the cliff-walk. They don't matter.Right now you can cry and let your image dissolveon the windshields of cars parked alongthe boardwalk. But you can't lose yourself.

Y siempre encontraré la puerta que me devuelva a la Quimera, porque tú estás conmigo.
