The Teacher And The Soldier (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Luke Fitzgerald comes home to Ellery Mountain to settle his father's estate. He left when he was 18 and swore he would never come back. His father was part owners of the cabins owned by Daniel Skylar's mom, Brenda. He has bad memories of the town and the people. When Daniel meets him, he immediately understands some of the things he's going through. Daniel has decided to try to open a home for men returning from war to allow them time to adjust. He's got the support of his friends and a doctor at the hospital who helped him. Luke and Daniel connect. But, can Daniel stay in this town? This story was painful to read at times because the characters and what they have gone through are so well written. I always admire this author's willingness to take on difficult subjects and handle them with so much compassion. It's hard not to love the main characters. And, it was great to catch up with characters for the first book in the series. I'm definitely ready for more Ellery Mountain stories. synopsis:daniel is an ex-soldier who wants to find love and set up a rehabilitation centre for ex-soldiers in his town. luke ran away from his home after his father finally went too far and beat him up really badly. now luke's father has died, and luke has to come back to town to deal with his inheritance. in a small town, there aren't a lot of options for a hook-up, and daniel and luke are attracted to each other.what i liked: i liked the idea of the story.what i didn't like: the relationship felt forced, as if they were the only two gay guys in town, so they had to hook up. (even though they aren't; for a small town, there seems to be a lot of gay people running around.) i never really felt the connection between the two of them. also, luke's resolution about his father just didn't ring true. one day he woke up and years of abuse were forgotten and he could now have a healthy relationship?
