The Vanishing Girl (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

(This was a free copy I got from netgalley in exchange for a honest review)It's been a little while since I read this so bear with me. This is about a girl who finds herself teleporting to places just as she falls asleep but only for ten minutes at a time. The next is a spoiler but a review is a partial spoiler anyway.( Don't want spoilers? Don't read reviews!) She then gets carted off to a facility because her scumbag parents didnt warn her that they sold away her life so they could have her. Two years only for the government? "Yeah right!" , says anyone who ever had a brain cell ever. I'm sorry but this book was boring. I hate, absolutely hate, writing bad reviews because I feel like a hypocrite and I can only imagine all the blood sweat and tears that go into a book. I did, however, promise to be honest. It was just meh. I enjoyed the beginning but as soon as Ember and her dreamboat started getting it on that's when i started snoring excluding a few scenes that woke me up a little. It makes me want to pull my hair out because this book was such a new concept but it turned into some teen porn fantasy (I exaggerate). Would it have killed the author to make Ember at least play a little hard to get or throw in Adrian a little more as a love interest?3 stars for the concept and some decent characters. Not the worst I have read recently but I want to see more from the next one. This story centers on a unique girl named Ember who goes from attempting to hide her ability to unwillingly teleport every night, to being a soldier in a government project against her will. Her pairing with Caden becomes one of the focal points of the book as their bond grows throughout their time spent together in training. As per the norm with the Young Adult stories of today, I feel that Ember’s and Caden’s sexual relationship came about way too quickly. In this story, I can actually understand their instantaneous draw to one another due to their creation. That at least makes their relationship plausible, I just wish that it hadn’t almost immediately turned into “let’s get naked” sessions. All in all, the story is an interesting and you will want to see how the story unfolds with Ember. There are many twists and turns to keep the reader interested, and the action is non-stop for poor Ember. She is the focal point of a major power struggle and it appears that she will be the key to the program’s success of failure. You can’t help but love Caden’s mix of caring and confidence. Beware, you are in for a massive cliffhanger than will have you scouring the internet for the next in the series.
