"El hombre equivocado" es la novela más nueva de John Katzenbach, en donde demuestra una vez más su maestría al construir una novela de puro suspense psicológico, que caracterizo a todos sus anteriores trabajos.La historia comienza cuando una mujer decide contarle la historia a un hombre; una historia de amor, dice ella, amor obsesivo que llevó a un hombre a hacer infinidades de cosas por conquistar al amor de su vida. Intercalando la charla de estos dos personajes (uno casualmente sería Katzenbach) se cuenta la historia de Ashley Freeman, una joven estudiante que tras pasar una relación de una noche con el misterioso Michael O´Connell se da cuenta de que se peor pesadilla ha comenzado; este perturbador personaje demostrará pronto que es un hombre demasiado obsesivo y que quiere conseguir a Ashley a cualquier precio. La familia de ella se interpondrá en el camino, desencadenando una serie de eventos funestos para todos.El juego del gato y el ratón en este libro es muy tenso y angustiante; el acosador es un verdadero genio, cuyas capacidades como hacker pondrán en serios aprietos tanto a Ashley como a sus padres, el profesor de Historia Scott Freeman, a su madre Sally Freeman- Richards y a la pareja de su madre, Hope, una entrenadora de fútbol femenino. Prácticamente arruina sus vidas laborales y sociales de un plumazo. Ahí entra en conflicto el actuar como familia para deshacerse de este enemigo demasiado astuto, de una vez por todas eliminar a este "hombre equivocado" que se ha metido en sus vidas. En un momento dado dan ganas de pegarle un tiro en la cabeza al maldito, de tan bien construido que esta su personaje lo odiás como si existiera.La conclusión (el plan para contrarrestar a O´Connell que pone en marcha la familia Freeman) es tremendamente satisfactoria, aunque deje un sabor amargo el verdadero final. Aún así, es un placer tener otra entrega de este increíble autor que es John Katzenbach.
OK..I am officially skittish about writing a review of a book in the thriller genre. It seems that what thrills one may not thrill another and that while sex and violence sells its a turn on for some and less so for others. That said there is some but remarkably little overt sex and violence in this book. This is a book about mind games and what rational people will do in irrational situations. Its about coincidences and what happens when a truly smart but demented character manipulates those circumstances to their own advantage. Micheal O'Connell, from the wrong side of the tracks has fallen in love with upper-middle class blond Ashley, (talk about a news reporters wet dream), after a drunken one night stand. But M. O. is not to be easily deterred when the inevitable break-up occurs. The rest of the book is deicated to his ability to stalk Ashley and make the lives of those she loves miserable as they attempt to shield her from his increasingly menacing advances. The psychological and modern technological warfare waged by both camps is terrifying in that its all so completely possible. The ending is unexpected and a nice twist. The only minor flaws to me in the book were its length..there was room for some judicious editing and when the scenes shifted from Micheal to the families efforts to save Ashley there was a noticible drop off in excitment. The crazed stalker was truly the star of the show.
Malón. Me gusta mucho la descripción que hace Katzenbach de los personajes principales y cómo plantea las distintas problemáticas entre ellos. Pero el mentado hombre equivocado del título resulta ser un súper súper villano, prácticamente omnipresente e invulnerable. Su personalidad no está bien definida, el autor sólo se empeña en mostrar cuán malvado es y cae en contradicciones muy obvias. En momentos plantea que lo que más disfruta el personaje es el momento de la planeación; y en otras ocasiones sale con que "para Michael, los momentos de furia eran como una droga para él, esa era su adicción, a los momentos en que la furia se apoderaba de él y lo dejaba salir". ¿Dónde está el amor por la planeación entonces?

ASDASFAGSAFOMGWTF... Katzenbach no sé cómo le hace para crear tantas historias diferentes y atraparte en cada una de ellas. Involucrándote con cada personaje que él te narra y haciéndote sentir toda clase de sentimientos mientras devoras sus páginas, diciéndote "otro capítulo más" cada noche.A pesar de que El hombre equivocado empieza un poco lento, a medida de que todo avanza, la trama se vuelve casi irresistible de dejar de leer hasta llegar al final y derramar lágrimas cuando terminas el útlimo capítulo.Definitivamente, mi autor favorito de thrillers.

Wow... this book was really one heck of a ride!! Filled with suspense and uncertainty from the first page to the very last, I could barely force myself to put it down along the way. The story centers around a man's relentless stalking of college student Ashley Freeman after they have a drunken one-night-stand. While Ashley considers the whole event a meaningless "mistake", Michael is convinced they are meant to be together forever, no matter what it takes. A typical stalker's obsession develops, as he patiently and methodically sets out to destroy the lives of Ashley and those who love her, with his own "love" (albeit a decidedly possessive, rage-filled, obsessive kind of love) of Ashley being the driving force behind everything he does. He gets more than he reckoned for, however, when Ashley's divorced parents, along with her mom's partner, join forces to do whatever necessary to keep Ashley safe. It becomes a battle of will and intellect, with neither side ever knowing how far the other is willing to go to achieve their own ultimate goals. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! The author did a fantastic job of allowing the tension and suspense to build steadily and continuously throughout. The book felt a little long at times (500 pages), but I only noticed the length because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. Definitely recommended for fans of psychological suspense!
