Toen David Zijn Stem Verloor (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
When I realized the subject matter I was tempted to put this book away but I'm so happy that I read it. For anyone who has been a caregiver, this book will have a special meaning. When you love someone who is very ill, there is an odd sense of time and space as you remember them strong and healthy and then wonder what life will be like when they leave this world. Please allow yourself to feel all the sorrow and gather the strength it takes to experience this touching graphic novel. When David Lost His Voice (2013) by Judith Vanistendael tells the story of a father dying of cancer, his daughter who is preparing herself for the worst, and her daughter who is trying to grapple the concept of death with her imagination. The beauty lies mostly in the art proven by the way it conveys the painful grief of loss with erratic illustrations, ranging from comedic to dramatic art.. very much theatrical. Recommended.

I had higher hopes for it, but it read like a very sad autobiography.
