Tohtori Proktorin Pierupulveri (2007) - Plot & Excerpts

it pains me to say this about a Nesbo book, but I didnt think it was all that great.I read it out loud to kids (8+7) and fell over way too many words...It seemed to take an age to get through asit just didnt flow.we werent sure what age range it was for, as the characters were ten or so, but felt the illustrations and story were aimed at younger kids, but with some trickier words in there.A great idea, the fart powder, but just didnt have us chuckling am afraid, and 8 year old said was a bit boring towards the end If I were 10, I'd give the book five stars. But this book, which I bought for my 8 year old grand-daughter, is for the younger set. I read it to keep up with her. If I gave it 4 stars, I'd fear that I was doing so just to justify buying a book about farting for my grandchild. (I'd read reassuring reviews before buying her the book.) Actually, I SHOULD give it 4 stars. The book takes farting to new heights - literally and figuratively. Instead of keeping farts in the realm of scatology, the book takes farting into the areas of friendship, bullying, and building self-confidence in the face of great odds. The two young protagonists, unlikely friends, find each other by accident and cultivate a wonderful friendship despite taunting by bullies and uncaring others. Nilly, the pint-size boy, has a precocious intellect that serves him in both academic settings and in the world of social intercourse, where he uses his superior intellect to cow and contain the dim, unsavory, and authoritative types who would thwart him. Naturally, he and his friend, the normal-size Lisa, prevail. The doctor is a tamer version of the wacky doctor in the movie, BACK TO THE FUTURE. He and his scientific "assistants" (Nilly & Lisa) devise and encounter all sorts of adventures, and while some are wildly fantastic, all are to the purpose. The children overcome all sorts of obstacles to prevail and even to save their town from humiliation.
