1980s category romance with the heroine's vagina turned inside out. predictable paint-by-numbers plot, faux gay men who cry way too easily (if you're so repressed that you're deep in the closet at 30 and ready to marry a woman to keep your cover, you're not sufficiently in touch with your feelings to sob over a novel). furthermore we have not one, but two consummate bitch women trying to throw a wrench into our protags' love life, which i pretty much despise by now. and a completely unrealistic father who transmogrifies miraculously from a person feared into most understanding dad ever overnight. plus a faux cockney accent for the adorable scamp of an office manager, trying to give the book a bit of local flair (alas the setting and people didn't feel british to me; i got no sense of place at all). everything is tied up super-neatly with a pretty bow on top (and then some in the epilogue, stop it already; i'm dying of saccharin poisoning here!). yeah, this was all around unsatisfying; i didn't like harlequin romances in the first place, and prefer my m/m to shade into actual gay instead of het romance.what the heck is it with the high ratings, goodreads? the only thing worthwhile here is the sex, which is actually mildly hot (though i felt cheated out of the small orgy). all that said, i think the writer has potential; i'll probably try another book by her. Blake has hid his sexuality from everyone, using an escort service to satisfy his needs. On the night of his 30th birthday, he treats himself and spends an amazing night with Alec. When the morning comes, he finds himself alone and heads to work, only to find out that the sexy escort who gave him the ride of his life the night before is Will Parkinson, the candidate interviewing for the position as Blake's PA. Once Will is on the job, the sexual tension between Blake and Will is hot and I loved how they interacted. Blake is desperate to keep his secret and the drama resulting is great. A 4 star read for me! And book two added to my TBR!
What do You think about Una Questione Personale (2014)?
