The day was flying by and taking forever, an oxymoron of hours. If we got on the road, getting to Dalper Lake would take about three hours max. I’d only been there once or twice, but the lake and the surrounding land was the stuff travel brochures were made of. I was eager to get up there with Giovanni. If I was going to feel helpless and frustrated, it might as well be in a gorgeous place with a gorgeous boy. ‘I only need some jeans and some shirts. And my cologne. Some shampoo. A sweater, it gets really cold there at night. It can be a bazillion degrees during the day but at night it drops and you need to snuggle. It’s nice. Did you remember a sweater? Should I throw one in for you?’ I laughed, grabbing his good hand. ‘God, you are talking a mile a minute. Are you nervous? And yes, I did remember a sweater.’ He winced for a second and I wondered if I’d hurt him, but then he said, ‘It’s John. He should be at work, but I’m … nervous is a good word,’ he said.
