It's been a while since I read the first three Connor Grey books, so i had to be reminded a little of what had happened in the last one. A few (or more than a few) gentle nudges from the author helped, although I also (due to my contrary nature) found them a little bit annoying, almost as if we had to be reminded of what had gone before several times over in case we forgot (again). Anyway, it's very hard to know where to go when the last book finished on the apocalyptic-world-as-you-know-it-is-coming-to-an-end except for the fact that our hero blasts it out of the ballpark and saves the day just in the nick of time, but this book does okay. I suppose what happens is that you need more and more apocalyptic scenarios to get the juices going.A good read for a bank holiday Monday. This is book 4 in a detective urban fantasy series (Connor Grey). It's a good choice for those suffering from Dresden Files withdrawl between books. It's not a blow-you-away-amazing series, but it's consistently well written and interesting. I keep coming back to it and am please every time.In this one, Connor's neighborhood has become even more violent after the problems in the last couple books. There are undead people roaming the streets killing solitary fey, egged on by the magical clouds of taint that no one knows how to get rid of. Connor's friend Murdock has some very devistating things happen to his family in this book, and Shay returns to the story with a hell-hound sidekick. Eorla and Meryl play important roles in this story as well. Connor also meets the last creature he ever expected to go to for help - a magical vampire called a leanansidhe. By the end, we've got a lot more info about the magic-blocking black mass in Connor's head, Connor is on the lamb from the authorities. and Vize slips through his grip again.
What do You think about Unperfect Souls (2010)?
A solid entry in the series with plenty of twists and turns and future plot hooks.

This is one of the best series I have found in a long time.
