I’d read the line “like music to my ears” once in a book, never really understanding what it meant until the first moment I heard her speak. The sound of her voice, even when it was tinged with fear, had done something to me, like a small electric shock that made the hair on my body stand on end. I turned to my side and faced Chloe: her big green eyes, her tiny nose that turned up a little at the end, and the two shallow dimples that appeared on her cheeks whenever she smiled.
