Until Forever Comes (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

CC's books are my go to when I need a short feel good romance to pull me back up. I'm reading them all over the show in order (for instance in Mates I read book 3 first and now i've read book 2, yet I still haven't read 1 yet) but I don't care.I'm gradually catching up on the back catalogue. I prefer when she writes a longer book, some of the shorts have left me wanting to know more. This book was short but not overly so. With a younger shifter and an ancient vampire as the couple in the story, what's not to love.Another gem that I enjoyed. Very sweet but not as syrupy as the first book in the series.Ethan is a wolf shifter, unable to shift, sickly and small. He has accepted he will not live out the year so joins some young pack mates who are going into town to attack some bloodsuckers that have arrived recently. Ethan thinks dying while fighting the vampires will be a heroes death. Just as he is sure he is going to die the biggest and baddest of the vampires the shifters attacked stops Ethan's imminent death and Ethan has his first orgasm and shift, an odd occurrence considering the circumstances. He later returns to the scene to find the vampire Miguel and realizes they are True Mates. I'm not sure if this is an alternate world created by the author and find that a little confusing. The towns mentioned don't exist but they appear to take place somewhere in Georgia. The story is actually a prequel to 'Wake Me Up Inside' and ends about 30 years before we meet Ethan and Miguel in that book. There is a lot of drama here and danger. Shifters and Vampires are sworn enemies so the two being True Mates doesn't go well between the species. I did enjoy learning the differences and like the first book the author did not follow the usual tropes and introduced his own version of shifters and vampires. I could give this book a strong four stars except for Ethan. He is a strongly written character and his emotions and reactions to the events taking place are what really bring the story to life. However, UGH! his language is a farce! I tried, really I tried very hard to keep reminding myself that he was dirt poor, raised on pack lands away from humans and the majority of this story took place about 50 years ago but the way Cardeno C. wrote Ethan's language would make Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn and Lennie Small correct him! Truly cringe worthy.
